Running Time

Wey! Music puts me in a happy place! Recently I have been going on a fitess bender and a few tunes get me in the mood for tearing it up! Kiss of Life by Friendly Fires and my old favourite The Test by The Chemical Brothers and the mighty Secret Friend by IMAX, something to keep the juices flowing :)

Hurrah the curse is broken!

Bands,bands,bands!
Check out Broken Bells for glorious slightly leftfield folky beach music from a combo of Dangermouse aka part of Gnarls barkley and god knows how many other side projects and teams he is part of (amazing producer!) and the shins frontman James Mercer!
Also if you dont know look up Mt Eden, borderline ambient dubstep, alot of grand remixes of new and old songs, good for a relaxing but funky time, whether you think this is good or bad, no one track stands out, but all are incredibly good, production and sound wise!

Also if you havent listened to him/her/it then Fever Ray, the singer of THE KNIFE takes on a persona of oddness and creates amazing dark textual work that speaks of childhood, love and alienation among other things all with pitchshifting vocals, minor chords and sounds that creep under and over you!

To a viral campaign check out iamamiwhoami's at http://www.youtube.com/user/iamamiwhoami#p/a/u/1/oVVLkWjTISE alot of speculation as too whether this is lady gaga,Christina or Britney Spears, even if its Little Boots, if it is or if its not its sounds good, creepy and dark, any industrial touch wrapped in a slight pop cover, so keep and eye out for this and see how it develops :)

Lyrics

I have been thinking about lyrics alot lately, the implications, the way in which adding lyrics to a simple chord structure can make it sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread. Being a guitarist I care more about the notes more than the lyrics (even through alot of songs i love for the lyrics i go more on melody and harmony than the actually words themselves...for shame!) so here is two songs that i love lyrically at the mo...:)

Lying I still can't find the truth.
So I spin another line on you
You can't blame a fella for trying
I'm hoping you eat my every word
Doesn't it taste so good?
But deep inside I'm dying

Oh! I wanna word with you
If there's never a perfect time
It's time for another white lie

White lies just another white lie
I did it to get close to you
And I will tell a million more
White lies just another white lie
I do it to get close to you
And I will tell a million more white lies

One day I know you'll understand
That I didn't really have much choice
I just had to hide it
Sometimes good men do bad things
Just as bad men can do good
Tell me which way you like it

Oh! I wanna word with you
There's never a perfect time
However much I try
Oh! Why don't you sit yourself down?
Cos we gotta talk this through
It's time for another white lie…

White lies just a little white lie
I did it to get close to you
And I will tell a million more
White lies just a little white lie
I do it to get close to you
And I will tell a million more white lies

Oh-oh oh-oh
I was just playing girl I was just playing by your rules
Oh-oh oh-oh
Just another white lie and I'll tell a million more
White lies…

One night to be confused
One night to speed up truth
We had a promise made
Four hands and then away
Both under influence
We had divine sense
To know what to say
Mind is a razorblade

To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, no

One night of magic rush
The start - a simple touch
One night to push and scream
And then relief
Ten days of perfect tunes
The colors red and blue
We had a promise made
We were in love

To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, no
To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, oh

And you, you knew the hand of a devil
And you kept us awake with wolves teeth
Sharing different heartbeats in one night

To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, no
To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, oh

These are sad songs, but they make me smile alot :)

My Music and some Bands

I'm so happy, after much deliberation I have put up my music on facebook for all to see and hear! Now just time for feedback! TBH I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IM DOING! lol everytime I try to make something I get stuck and cant be arsed to finish it. However I have had a lot of good response which makes me happy...and the comments are from other musicians! So people who know how hard it is to make a tune! I just wish my computer wasnt dying on its ass, music software uses a lot of processing power and so I cant do alot, I have resorted to just using Reason 3 now ( I tried 4 but its too much for my system!) However please have a listen and tell me what you think, search for GIO in facebook and add, I would love to hear what others are thinking about it :)

I have been trying to figure out what to listen to next...any suggestions? I have no idea, the last year of doing a music centered course (the irony is coming now) I have no clue what music is fresh and new or what styles people wnat or like. I feel I have hit a barrier of non-musical-ness. The shame is the last band that blew...yes BLEW ME AWAY....was...wait for it Hadouken! yes bliming, grimey, supposed Nu rave Hadouken! I cant remeber the music from the last year or two. So without fail I have been reading through as much musical press to get a flipping grip...but its all shit! Absolute garbage, I have not felt this down aboutnew music in a while, I dunno if there is too much or too little or if everyone is following the same musical path or if my ears and mind have grown old...next Ill be screaming "Turn that bloody noise down!" and grab my pipe and slippers. How has it come to this? Is it as soon as you turn 21/22 you suddenly dont like new things? Hell I like stability but I love new music and new experiences! Ok,ok, Cornwall is not the best place to be for a music scene, but with the net and online musical pages aglore you would think something would hit me as amazing. There is a lot that is ok, perhaps even really good, but not amazing. The Boxer Rebellion album Union is a prime example, good for people who like Radiohead,Interpol,Coldplay,U2 or the ilk The album is a grower, but its not amazing. Ill give them credit as there is no way I could create some of the amazing swafts of sound they do, but I feel its been done. Is it because I hear the influences of so many other bands that I cant appreicate new ones? Please some one tell me! Sned me answers on a postcard to Fickle Musical Man, it doesnt need an address because all postcards will be sent to me as I rock slowly in the corner trying to the new sound quietly going insane!!!!

Take Two

Im back again and with it so new music suggestions..well im not suggesting these musicians are new, but definitely worth a look and a listen. I have been going through a electro phrase again,l aying for the dubstep for a while and returning to more synthetic pop styles. At heart I am a child of the 80's and I have a deep seated love for synths, drum machines and a good pop song. I know, its horrible..if dont badly! But here is a list of good artists and some good songs to go check out:

The Knife : Heartbeats (Original song, sorry Jose!)
FrankMusik : Done Done
Mr Hudson: White Lies
I Am X (feat Imogen Heap) : My Secret Friend
Little Boots : Mathematics
Boom Boom Satellites : Next Morning
Kissy Sell out : Garden Friends

Check them out, you might like them, you might not. The more straight forward pop electro is difficult to get into, I feel, becuase of the label of "POP" but there are some amazing artists out there doing some amazing things. I fortunately have not had the time to go hunting around regularly for new amazing music of late. I have to my horror gone back to the musical presses, which in their own right offer some good music, but often lead people to music that is a little basic or is plain dull...(Im looking at you NME) Music should be an enriching experience, it should lift you up or even crush you, chill out or fuck up, the thought should be...hm Portishead or Anthrax. The plethora of music that exists is too much, but there is always good, even in the bad. A wide range of music means that a lot of people are being creative, breeding a level of happiness and contentment among everyone. I dont know anyone who does not enjoy watching bands, being engaged in a gig, dancing! Hell the the way I see it even if you love Casacade, a band I abhorr, if it makes you happy then great! Music is escapism, but it also carries alot of emotion for people, its a carrier and a source. I feel a rant coming on, but I shall stop now and structure it for later, but havew a great day music lovers!

Traditional with something a little newer....

A s a musician I love the use of acoustic instruments, but as a lover of music I love all types of music specially electroninc styles. So I have hunted high and low for tracks that to me mix acoustic instruments, actual hands on instrumention that has been combined with obscure electronic music.

Juno Reactor: Samurai

Excision Feat Datsik : Boom

Air : Surfing on A Rocket

Hybrid: Dogstar

Enjoy!!

So hear it is......

First blog, first post, something for the masses and various people, music old, music new, reviews, critical acclaim, just pure music in the end, something for you to get your teeth into, something for you to enjoy. so welcome!

So as we near the end of 2009 and enter a new decade of music lets have a look at what is going on! Rage against the Machine are number 1 for the Christmas single in the UK! beating X factor contestant Joe McElderry. Amazing! Just goes to show it can be done, if enough people want something, you can achieve it :) I personally love R.A.T.M but I have space for pop in life, but its gotta have soul, something X Factor does not have or at least lacks in huge quantities. To Joe though, congrats on get so far, for trying, to be honest he'll still be remembered as the guy who lost to R.A.T.M but that's not a terrible thing, its a historic and amazing time for all, regardless of music genre, likes and dislike, becuase a message was sent out to the record companies as to what the public want and will have, proper music created by proper musicians that lives, breathes and has value.........

here's me hoping that the manufactured bands and artists will dissolve away :P
